We're pleased to offer the following services at Dakota Pet Hospital Veterinary Clinic:

Our appointment book is computerized which allows us to efficiently make appointments for you and your pet. Our receptionists and team will attempt to accommodate all requests to the best of our ability. Emergencies are accepted anytime our clinic is open. If you feel you have an emergency with your pet, please call us or come to the hospital immediately. If possible it is best to call before coming in so that a staff member can advise you on your particular emergency.

Preventive and General Medicine

Here at Dakota Pet Hospital, we strive to prevent disease before it has a chance to happen. Disease prevention begins with an annual physical exam. We recommend routine blood screenings and offer your senior pet an individualized wellness blood panel.  Urine and stool samples are another tool used for detecting illness in cats and dogs. If you have any questions or concerns regarding any of these screening tools, please ask your veterinarian at your appointment.

Our doctors and staff will meet the highest of standards when providing excellent and quality care for pets of all ages and their individual needs.

Preventive medicine, with the focus on your pet's overall health and wellness, is practiced from the day we meet you and your pet. We encourage routine physicals on a yearly basis as a tool in assessing your animal's physical health and well-being.

Laboratory testing, digital x-ray and ultrasound are also available to help us monitor your pet's health and aging process throughout their life with you.

To better assist us with monitoring your pet's health and their aging process throughout their lifetime, we have the following services available:

Digital x-ray

Ultrasound (with advance notice)

Laboratory testing

Laboratory and Surgery

Our in-house laboratory gives us great insight into the sick and the healthy pets we see each day.

We have the ability to run chemistry panels, CBC's, phenobarbital levels, stool samples, heartworm tests, feline leukemia/FIV tests  and many more. We are able to run these and many other diagnostic tests while you wait to help our doctors gather information about what ails your pet and start treatment if needed. It is also a great tool in monitoring your pets overall health and well-being.

We may also use an outside laboratory for certain tests and diagnostics that we are unable to perform in our in-house lab. Tests that we would send to our outside lab include: thyroid tests, fungal cultures, pathology, senior wellness panels, and more. For many of these, we will have the results in a day or two, others take a bit longer. Please feel free to ask about any of our laboratory services at your visit.

Because we care so much about your pet's health, welfare, and well-being, we have made sure to include our very own in-house laboratory on our site! This resource gives our veterinarians great insight into both the sick and the healthy pets we see on a daily basis.

Our in-house lab allows us to run the following tests:

Chemistry panels

CBC's (complete blood counts)

Phenobarbital levels

Stool samples

Test for heartworm and tick born diseases

Feline leukemia/FIV tests

And many more!

Since we are able to conduct these tests and obtain near immediate results while our veterinarians are examining your pet and conducting other diagnostic tests while you wait, we're able to collect as much accurate information about what is ailing your pet.

The quicker we're able to provide an accurate diagnosis, the quicker we're able to implement the proper care protocol and get your pet back on the road to perfect health in no time.

Even if your pet is already the picture of perfect health, these tools help us in monitoring your pet's overall health and well-being.

Sometimes, though, we need to utilize the resources of an outside, independent laboratory. We do this when we're unable to perform certain tests in our own in-house laboratory, such as:

Thyroid tests

Fungal cultures

Senior wellness panels

And more!

Though there are times when we do use the services of an outside lab, the test results are usually back within 24 - 48 hours. There are some that do take a little longer, and we will be sure to inform you at the time of your visit if this will be the case. Please feel free to ask us about any of the laboratory services ordered at your visit. We're more than happy to answer your questions!

Dakota Pet Hospital is fully equipped to handle hospitalization for your ill pets

We can hospitalize your pet for the day or just a couple hours depending on the illness. When continued hospitalization is needed, we often refer our clients to the Animal Emergency Clinic in Apple Valley for continued overnight care.

If your pet requires surgery, let the people who know him or her best be the ones who do it.

We are fully-equipped and staffed to perform a variety of surgeries.

However, if your pet requires a more in depth surgery, we can call in a specialist to assist us. No matter what, we will always strive to do what is best for your beloved pet.

Dental Procedure

Your veterinarian has recommended that your pet have a dental cleaning (and possible extractions). A dental cleaning removes tartar buildup from your pet's teeth, which can alleviate bad breath. A dental cleaning also improves your pet's systemic health by decreasing bacteria in their mouth which can directly affect your pet's internal organs. This procedure may be recommended as a preventive measure or because your pet needs one or more teeth removed (extracted). Keep in mind that dental disease is often painful; your pet may have difficulty or stop eating from dental disease in his or her mouth.

A dental cleaning and dental x-rays are routinely performed when your pet is in need of tooth extractions. Your pet may need one or more teeth extracted depending on the severity of dental disease present.

Some indications for tooth extractions include:

Broken or cracked teeth
Tooth root abscess or infection
Pulp cavity exposure
Deterioration of the gum line surrounding the teeth

Based on the severity of dental disease, procedure being performed, and other considerations, your pet may be required to start antibiotics prior to their dental cleaning.

We offer a $50.00 discount when booking a dental procedure within one month of your pets annual exam.

Your pet deserves to be pampered too.

Grooming services ranging from nail trims to a bath, brush and haircut, are available daily with one of our experienced groomers.
